Maj Duckworth - DJ
Maj Duckworth cut his teeth some ten years ago in Leeds, both promoting and performing at various nights across the city. Fuelled by his initial love for Hip Hop, his turntable skills saw him eventually return to his native London where he has been cutting, scratching and beat juggling the finest cuts through club and radioland ever since.
After securing residencies in Camden and West London, he has gone on to spin at a host of venues across the land, such as the iconic Clapham Grand and notably, The Rumshack, a 1100 plus capacity late night venue located in the South East ‘Naughty’ corner of the worlds biggest greenfield festival, Glastonbury.
Extending his musical range beyond the realms of Hip Hop, Maj has been known to smash sets in Soul, Funk, Disco, R&B, original breaks and even Rock & Roll!
This range of genres led to shows on Whitechapel AM, LFR, world famous Itch FM and thanks to his recent acceptance on to the Multitrack Fellowship, he debuted on BBC Radio 4 with his documentary ‘Hip Hop‘s Laughing Stock’, as well as continuing to get booked across the capital and beyond.
Now a Brighton resident, Maj is bringing his genre bending, turntablist influenced sets from the inner city to the South Coast, replicating his impact on London’s musical tapestry in and around Brighton.
James Trice - Documentary Maker
James began his radio journey hosting a Soul and Funk show on Whitechapel AM’s hospital radio, before moving on to London Fields Radio and the world-renowned Hip-Hop radio station Itch FM. His passion for storytelling led him to be accepted onto the prestigious Multitrack Fellowship, which creates opportunities for individuals underrepresented in the audio industry and which paved the way for his debut production on BBC Radio 4 with Hip Hop's Laughing Stock, a documentary about rapper-turned-comedian Joe Jacobs, exploring the intersection of hip-hop and comedy.
James’ other works include contributions to Radio 4’s Life on Lockdown, where he shared a touching audio diary about the impact of the pandemic and the death of his grandmother, The Rez, a sci-fi podcast for young listeners, where he assisted with foley and sound design and during the In The Dark Short Feature Course, James discovered his love for poetry, creating his first abstract audio poem, Asphalt Lullaby, which captures the rhythm and rush of city life, adding to his varied body of work.
James has continued to build an impressive portfolio of work. His deeply personal short documentary, Echoes of Cockney, was featured on BBC Radio 4's Short Cuts. The piece weaves an intimate interview with his father on the decline of the Cockney dialect, alongside James’ own poetry reflecting on the changing landscape of East London.
Currently based in Brighton, James produced Saltwater Soul, an experimental audio documentary showcased at In The Dark’s What’s New. The piece blends the serene world of Brighton’s sea swimming community with the urgent protests against pollution by British water companies, showcasing his ability to merge personal, environmental, and social narratives. James also wrote poetry for the documentary, further cementing his interdisciplinary approach to audio storytelling.
With each project, James continues to explore new creative avenues, blending poetry, sound design, and documentary storytelling to create immersive and thought-provoking audio experiences.
