I’m thrilled to share that my short audio documentary, Saltwater Soul, was recently showcased to an audience of around 200 people at In The Dark’s What’s New? event. It was an honor to see the piece selected and presented alongside an array of creative and experimental audio from emerging producers.

What Is In The Dark What’s New?

In The Dark What’s New? is an inspiring event that brings together innovative audio creators, held in the beautifully intimate setting of Dalston East Curve Garden. The evening is dedicated to spotlighting new audio pieces that push the boundaries of storytelling. The event’s team, alongside curators from Transmission Roundhouse and In The Dark, reviewed over 200 submissions from global producers—from students and self-taught creatives to established names trying something new. It’s a celebration of newness in every sense—whether it’s new voices, perspectives, or techniques in the world of audio.

The Journey of Saltwater Soul

Saltwater Soul is a deeply personal project that explores the world of sea swimming in Brighton. The documentary weaves together the serene sounds of the ocean with the urgent voices of environmental activism, particularly protests against pollution by British water companies.

This piece was a turning point for me as a creator. It was the first time I introduced poetry into my work, which you’ll hear throughout the documentary. I wanted to capture the joy and tranquility of being in the water while also shedding light on the threats facing our seas. By mixing soundscapes of nature with moments of protest, I hope to communicate both the beauty and the urgency of protecting our waters.

Showcased ON XMTR

After being presented live at In The Dark What’s New?, Saltwater Soul was featured on the XMTR website. XMTR is an incredible platform that strives to preserve independent audio works and hidden gems in a sea of content. It’s a space where experimental audio like mine can be appreciated without being drowned out by the noise of the mainstream.
